The Secret Language of Comics

Workload

I came up with this comic based on an event that happened in my classroom. There was someone who was not willing to do the work but our group decided to do our respective parts and leave it up to him to complete the project. This was an interesting assignment because it allowed me to actually draw a comic firsthand which was a new experience for me. This post also gave me a chance to see what it’s like to portray a story in the form of a comic even if it was only three panels long. I am more used to writing in an essay format so it was fun to illustrate and show a story through illustration.

Ship happens!

This post was related to photoshop and editing. I was looking at my bottle and spinning it around my table when I realized the shape and the body of the bottle looked somewhat similar to the lighthouse. The movement around the table was somewhat similar to a lighthouse where the light rotates 360 degrees to warn sailors. Therefore I decided to combine these two images. I was unable to edit the background out of the lighthouse. All in all I thought this was a fun assignment and I learnt to look at things with a different perspective and see how two different images or objects can actually come together as one.

Stocks, Bonds and Financial Markets

I thought this assignment was really interesting because I have never taken notes in a visual format. As of now we have not gone into the depths of the class but we have discussed different aspects of the stock market and other such financial markets. I found this assignment more fun because it was easy to visualize concepts in the form of images with an artistic view point. I am extremely interested in this class and I found it fun to integrate the concept of comics and drawings with the idea of my other class. I also think visual notes can actually help learn content easier then continuous notes just containing writing.

Reflection Literacy Narrative 1

I thought this narrative was very different because I had never written about my experiences regarding writing and reading. I always had a specific topic in mind hence this exercise was a bit different from me. I thought the free writing exercise helped facilitate the flow of ideas in my mind and helped me explore different aspects that I could write about. By the end of the narrative, I realized that this memory which initially did not seem that important was one that stuck with me. In the process of writing this essay I realized that I must work more on my writing skills to effectively communicate and put my ideas forth. A sentence I think people would identify with the most would be “It was just an ordinary day where I decided to read a regular book and take a break from everything else.” The simplicity of this statement makes it interesting because it is so routine that no one realizes how important moments like these are.

Happy Accidents

I saw these 3D glasses randomly lying on my desk and I thought they would be perfect to use in my sketch. I first broke the two arms of the glasses and then fashioned a face around them. I thought this would be a simple drawing just of a guy using these glasses but then I decided to give him a neck tattoo. This addition to the drawing is extremely random but I feel like it’s cool because its such a random yet simple tattoo i.e a stick figure man jumping on a trampoline. I also made this tattoo to show that sometimes people make mistakes i.e in this case getting a neck tattoo but at the end of the day he is still happy and just content to be himself.

My Avatar

I chose this image of a lion as my avatar as I feel like it resonates with me on a deeper level. My last name “Sher” means lion in the Urdu Language. Moreover, I believe lions are one of the most fearless animals in the jungle and they are not afraid to venture out on their own willing to take risks. I aim to be more like this animal, ready to take on challenges like a leader. I also look forward to working in a team but subsequently being able to work on my own.
